  • a 72 TCR transgenic mice were monitored for EAE. Based on clinical signs of EAE, two groups of mice were distinguished. Group A represents mice that developed spontaneous clinical EAE (n = 3) and group B represents mice that never showed any signs of spontaneous EAE (n = 69).

  • b Among the 69 transgenic mice that did not develop EAE, 37 were examined closely for up to 1 yr for clinical signs of optic neuritis as described in Materials and Methods.

  • c The eyes, optic nerves, brain, and spinal cord from 15 TCR transgenic mice with or without clinical signs of optic neuritis were analyzed by histology. Mice were killed at 6.3 ± 2.5 mo of age. Most mice (67%) with clinical optic neuritis had histological lesions in the optic nerve.

  • 2D2 TCR transgenic mice were monitored for signs of EAE and optic neuritis.
